GoldenShade is a newly formed organisation dedicated to protecting children with albinism in Sierra Leone from the sun and raising albinism awareness.
Albinism is a genetic condition that affects the production of melanin (the pigment that colours skin, hair and eyes). This leaves people with albinism twice more likely to get skin cancer.
Many families in Sierra Leone with children that have albinism do not have access to the products and education that is needed to protect themselves from the sun.
So far we, GoldenShade, have managed to provide a 'sun protectant kit' to twenty children with albinism. This kit consisted of one bottle of mineral sun cream, one long sleeved T-shirt and one hat for the children. However this kit was just the beginning and there are more projects in the making, so check our website frequently for updates!
If you would like to be a part of the process, or have any questions, please go to our 'contact us' page. You can also help us protect these children by donating.
